Notre Dame and Alabama gave us quite a thriller Monday night as football season rolls toward the end zone. Many chose to watch it alone, such as Barbara Rowan from her Seagrove home. But others prefer the pack mentality, such as Paige and Mark Schnell, Christi and Patrick Ferry, Harriet Crommelin and Stephen Marlette who watched from Café Thirty-A. And Tammy Massey, Joe Ledo-Massey, Rafaella Ledo-Massey, Steve Bradley, Kelly O'rourke, Debra Spivey, Prescott and Alexandra Spivey — all Notre Dame fans except Tammy and two others — watched from The Gathering Spot at WaterColor Inn.

I chose the small group setting with one other couple. We chowed on homemade chili, jalapeno poppers, and a bit of cherry pie. It was a fun and thrilling end to the college football season.

Byron Chism pumped up some enthusiasm by offering a free basket of his Butt Rub products to anyone guessing closest to the final score before the game began on Facebook. Billy Carroll, a Nashville friend, won it with a pre-game prediction of 42-17.

Restaurant Paradis closed Monday night for a private party. Were there shouts of “Roll Tide” going up there? I'm not sure.

Lynn Wesson and Gale Culling hosted a birthday celebration for Mary Damroth at Gale’s beautiful home in the Sandestin community of Island Green on Jan. 4. Jane Krimbill attended with her daughter and granddaughter. Bob and Carol Saucier, Robin and Charles Wiesneth, Carol Rankin and her friend from New Jersey, Lynn Wesson, Tina and John Burke, Cindy Meadows, Bill Milum, Kay Phelan, Barbara Miller, Gail Murray, Jack and Lynn Abbit, Barbara Miller, Kay Phelan, Mardee Carlin, Carol Tyler, and Sue Holcombe also attended, as did Gale's daughter and grandsons, Christine, Nicholas, and Spencer Culling.

I hear I missed a fabulous birthday party in December that Claudia Droy threw for hubby Brad.

Cindy and Kraig McConnell celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary Jan. 10. Congratulations!
