From ‘tourons’ to fugitives: What was your biggest scare?

As we near the spookiest night of the year, our thoughts turn to all things frightful.

The Sun thought we would ask some of our loyal readers what the scariest thing is that they have encountered in South Walton. We received some interesting responses. It appears that ghosts and goblins are not the only scary things to be encountered in our little slice of paradise. In fact, in all the responses, not one claimed to have seen a ghost.

Point Washington resident Bob Steeno remembers the two days a bank robber with a gun was loose in Daughettes Subdivision a few years ago as pretty scary.

Stallworth Lake resident Brenda Radtke said the scariest thing she has seen here besides snakes and alligators are the "tourons."

The scariest thing for Freeport's Joan Vienot was the BP oil spill.

Santa Rosa Beach's Sara Markey said living through Hurricane Ivan with her blind and deaf dog was pretty scary. Sara and her dog crouched in a dark closet blocked (as closely as possible) by a chest of drawers against the door. "That, my friend, was about as scary as it gets!" she says years later.
