South Walton Fire District to Provide “Home for the Holidays” Service

The South Walton Fire District Emergency Medical Services Division will be offering free transportation on a space available basis to local residents who would otherwise be unable to come home for holiday celebrations.  The “Home for the Holidays” program, which was modeled after a similar program provided in Okaloosa County, will have transportation available on Christmas Eve and/or Christmas Day only, from the hours of 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.  All requests for transportation must be received by December 23, 2009.

This program is designed to allow patients in skilled nursing and adult living facilities to go home and be with family members for holiday dinner.  Patients must be self-supporting while at the residence, and be left in the care of a responsible family member.

SWFD will provide free roundtrip transportation originating in South Walton and ending in Walton County, Destin City limits, or the community of Blue Water Bay.  “The Home for the Holidays Program allows the SWFD to provide good cheer and a special service to our community this holiday season”, said Ryan Crawford, EMS Division Chief.

“This is South Walton Fire District’s way of saying Happy Holidays and providing an opportunity for families to celebrate together. We are truly committed to the safety, health and wellbeing of the members of our community,” said  deputy fire chief Sean Hughes.

For additional information, or to schedule transportation, please contact the Dispatch Center at 850-267-0167.
