‘Home’ coming: Chris Alvarado releasing new album on vinyl

Just in time to celebrate national Record Store Day, local singer/songwriter/performer Chris Alvarado is set to release his second album.

This second album is titled simply "Home" and is on vinyl.

Alvarado chose vinyl because "It's a format that is so much more personal than CD or mp3. You can't skip tracks and you have to make a physical effort to listen to the music. It also has a warmer and more natural sound. As a result, vinyl has seen a very large comeback in the past few years. I have already had a very large number of people show interest in this short run of records and expect to sell out pretty quickly," he said.

Performing is in Alvarado's blood. His dad is sax man Al Alvarado, who is well-known in the area.

Chris chuckles when asked about his choice of guitar over the saxophone; a choice he made at age 13.

"I chose guitar because that way, I can play by myself and it's easier to play the songs I hear on the radio," he explains.

He has been performing professionally for four years now at various locales up and down the coast, such as Hog's Breath Saloon, Pompano Joe's, AJ's, the Local Catch, Louis Louis, Baytowne, and at weddings and special events. He also performed during the 30A Songwriter's Fest in January. Every Tuesday, he can be found at Pompano Joe's, and on Wednesdays at Hog's Breath. His schedule of upcoming performances can be found on his Facebook page.
