Second body found in lake drowning
Second body recovered in drowning
DEFUNIAK SPRINGS - Walton County Sheriff's Office reports the recovery of a second body from a private pond off T.R.Miller Road in the Glendale community.
Roy Ramey, 93, and his son, Allan Ramey, 62, drowned in the 15-acre pond on March 16. Allan Ramey's body was recovered Sunday and Roy Ramey's body was recovered at 2:49 p.m. on Monday. Both men were residents of DeFuniak Springs.
Deputies responded on Sunday about 5:30 p.m. after a 911 call was received about a missing relative. When they arrived at the pond, the capsized boat and other debris were found floating in the water.
Allan Ramey's body was recovered from the lake and divers searched the water until about 9 p.m. for Roy Ramey. Deputies continued to search the woods in the area around the lake until about 1 a.m., in case Ramey's father had become disoriented and walked off.
Two cadaver dogs were called in to help with the search, as well as the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office dive team and Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission.
This is the first reported incident on the small lake located on private property. The lake is believed to be about 12-feet deep at its center.
Allan Ramey practiced law for more than 37 years. He served as the attorney for the South Walton Fire District, South Walton Mosquito Control, Walton County Contractors Competency Board and Chelco Electric. He was the first president of the Walton County Historical Society and former president of the Walton County Chamber of Commerce.
Allan Ramey is survived by his mother, Mary Allen Ramey, and his wife of 40 years, Dianne R. Ramey, both of DeFuniak Springs.
Roy Ramey is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary Allen Ramey and one daughter, Andrea Steelman of DeFuniak Springs.
Visitation for both men will be from 6 - 8 p.m., March 20 at Clary-Glenn Funeral Home Chapel, 230 Park Ave., DeFuniak Springs.
Funeral services for both men will be at 11 a.m., March 21 at First Presbyterian Church, 1063 Circle Drive, DeFuniak Springs, with Rev. John Napoli officiating. Burial will follow in Leonia Cemetery.
