Students in South Walton will likely have a new school in a few years.

The Walton County School Board approved the purchase of 33.75 acres of land this week after months of discussion.

The Forrest View, LLC. property is located along U.S. Highway 98 between Emerald Coast Middle School and the Bay County line.

“That certainly is where our growth has been,” Superintendent Carlene Anderson said of the new location.

In addition to the $3.175 million purchase price, the board also agreed to spend up to $400,000 to help fund 1/3 of the cost of building a road beside the property.

While an exact plan for what type of school will be built on the property is still in the works, district leaders have suggested it will likely be an elementary school.

Anderson anticipated she would present more information to the Board about it during the next presentation about the district’s 5-year-plan.
