Legion Park boat ramp out of service

It's been over a month that the boat ramp at Legion Park has been out of service, but the Walton County Tourist Development Council is working to get it up and running.

"We're in the permitting process," explained Dave Sell, beach maintenance manager for the TDC. "Once we get the Corps of Engineers Permit, we can begin the project."

The only problem is waiting for the Corps of Engineers, Sell said.

"They're not on a schedule," he said. "I've reached out to them to see if there's anything I can do to expedite the process."

The boat ramp has been free and open to the public for at least 10 years.

"I'm not sure how long it's been open," Sell said. "It's been here as long as I have been and I started working here in 2003."

Before it was broken, the ramp was used for smaller vessels such as kayaks, Sell said.
