LETTER: 30A cyclists are a serious traffic hazard

Published: Thursday, June 20, 2013 at 04:34 PM.

Last year, a former neighbor was killed while cycling in the Hwy. 98 bike lane.  It's a dangerous game being played by the 30A bicycle jockeys. It's just a matter of time until one or more ends up in the back of an ambulance, or worse.

Cycling on the 30A roadway needs to be banned.

With a paved bike path nearby, this should not inconvenience anyone. However, there also needs to be a regular bike lane constructed alongside the roadway. It'll save lives.

Expensive? Perhaps, but it'll be a much wiser use of scarce funds than some other questionable projects being bandied about, such as, the proposed 30A golf cart speedway or a grandiose sports center.

Projects like these are good for entertaining tourists and not much else!  How about drawing some funding from the new half cent sales tax or TDC bed tax?

Our brilliant county officials can figure this out.  They need to do it soon before tragedy strikes.
