Local dentists, Dr. Amber Wiebe DMD, FAGD, FICOI and husband, Dr. Olivier Broutin DMD, MAGD, MICOI, were awarded the prestigious Mastership in the Academy of General Dentistry during the Convocation Ceremony held at the AGD’s Annual Meeting and Exposition on June 28 in Detroit, Mich. Dr. Wiebe is the owner of Santa Rosa Beach Dental and Dr. Olivier Broutin is the owner of Bluewater Bay Dental.

The Mastership Award is the highest honor available in the AGD and one of the most respected designations in the dental profession. This accomplishment meets the highest criteria for professional excellence. A dentist who has earned the designation “Master” of the Academy of General Dentistry — a big step up from Fellowship — has completed a structured and rigorous set of requirements involving all the dental disciplines. Masters have accepted the charge to keep abreast of advances in every aspect of dentistry for the benefit of patients and the betterment of dentistry. They serve as mentors and leaders to other dentists pursuing continuing dental education. They set examples in their communities with their hard work, concern and involvement.

To accomplish this, Wiebe and Broutin completed more than a thousand hours of continuing dental education in the 16 disciplines of dentistry, including 400 hours dedicated to hands-on skills and techniques. They also successfully completed a written exam and then presented various cases of their work in the different disciplines to a panel of dentists.

Recipients of the Mastership award are entitled to the designation M.A.G.D. (Master, Academy of General Dentistry ) as a part of their academic credentials. One percent of dentists achieve Mastership status in the Academy of General Dentistry and internationally there are only 2,500 dentists ever to achieve this award.

By completing the rigorous requirements for a Mastership award, Wiebe and Broutin distinguished themselves from others in the profession. Becoming a Master shows their dedication and commitment to offer their patients a highly advanced variety of diagnosis and treatment choices in all aspects of dentistry.
