Santa Rosa Beach resident Sandy Weiner has always been a runner. She’s also a giver.

She runs four to six miles a day, six days a week, and in October of last year, Weiner saw something on Pinterest about Charity Miles, a way for runners to help charities while they run.

That sounded like a great idea to Weiner. She was running any way, so why not help a charity while she did it.

Charity Miles is a free app that empowers you to earn money for charities while walking, running or biking every day. Just choose a charity and hit the streets. As you walk, run or bike, the app will track your distance and you'll earn money for your charity at the rate of 10 cents per mile for bikers; 25 cents per mile for walkers and runners; all up to $1,000,000 courtesy of corporate sponsors.

Weiner said a runner downloads the app onto their phone and then just makes sure to take the phone with them every time they run, walk, or bike.

The runner gets to choose from several charities to benefit.

As you walk, run or bike with Charity Miles, you also help them attract more sponsors to increase their sponsorship pool.
