Blue Mountain man arrested for fireworks disturbance

Walton County Sheriff's Office

At around 11 p.m., June 28, the Walton County Sheriff's Office received a report of a man on Blue Lake Road in Blue Mountain Beach firing a handgun in the air and cursing.   The homes in the neighborhood sit close together.   One resident says he heard what sounded like a gunshot next to his home.  He then heard a man yell, "That's a warning shot!"

Deputies observed the subject, James J. Watson, staggering as he walked from the main home into the yard.  Due to the nature of the call, deputies closed in and ordered Mr. Watson to the ground and handcuffed for breach of the peace.

After being arrested, the 42-year-old Watson said he doesn't own guns that work.  But, told deputies that the noise heard was an M-80 firecracker.  He went on to say that he was upset at his mother and step-father and that's why he was yelling.

Watson was then transported to the Walton County Jail for the breach of peace violation.
