Crestview man crashes into parked Walton County patrol car (MUG)
SANDESTIN – A 28-year-old Crestview man is charged with DUI after crashing into the back of a parked Walton County Sheriff’s deputy vehicle around 1:30 this morning.
The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) reports that Deputy Blake McCormick was parked on the north shoulder of the westbound lanes of U.S. Highway 98, just east of Holiday Road. Deputy McCormick had stopped a 2007 Ford truck driven by a Kissimmee, Florida resident.
The FHP states that a westbound 2005 Chevy Cobalt driven by Joshua Bandy failed to move over for Deputy McCormick’s parked vehicle with its emergency lights operating. Bandy slammed into the back of the patrol car, and the impact caused the Chevy Cobalt to rotate clockwise, skidding approximately 70-feet. A portion of the vehicle came to a rest in the outside lane of Highway 98.
Bandy was charged with DUI and has been released from the Walton County Jail under a $500 bond. The Florida Highway Patrol is the lead investigative agency into the crash.
