DeFUNIAK SPRINGS — An area of Walton County was the site of two large fires Thursday, according to Walton County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Wendy Ammons.

First responders were called to Pleasant Ridge Road around 1:20 p.m. for a large brush fire, Ammons said.

Walton County FIre Rescue Chief Brian Coley said officials believe the fire starter may have been an abandoned car parked in a wooded area. The fire burned around three or four acres.

Ammons said Sheriff's Office deputies removed the vehicle and are attempting to locate the VIN number to locate the car's owner.

"It's still being investigated because the VIN melted on the car so its difficult to tell who it belongs to," Ammons said. "Once we have that we can move forward with the investigation."

Coley said crews were called out to the Pleasant Ridge Road area a second time around 10 p.m. for a structure fire.

A single-wide trailer was heavily engulfed in flames when crews arrived, Coley said.
