LETTER: Tea Party time! We scored big in primary elections
With eight of their 10 endorsed candidates winning in the county primary elections, the Walton County Tea Party Patriots are celebrating the success of their choices. Of the selected candidates, only Mike Hill, State Senate District 2, and Mike Lawson, Circuit Judge Group 3, lost their respective races. Tea Party favorite Sara Comander won handily over Rosier "Ro" Cuchens in the race for county commissioner District 4.
Sara Comander's adherence to Tea Party principles of smaller government, less taxes, and less government interference in people’s lives were keys to her victory. Walton County is fortunate to have Sara fighting for the people.
Other successful Tea Party favorites in county races included Faye Leddon, and Sharon Byrd Roberts, School Board Districts 3 and 5. Two endorsed candidates won the county vote but lost in their district races. Barbara Olschner, in the U.S. Congress District 2 race, lost to Steve Southerland of Panama City and Holly Benson lost the Attorney General race to Pam Bondi. In other statewide races, Marco Rubio and Rick Scott, both endorsed by Tea Party groups across Florida, won the Republican nominations for U.S. senator and governor.
All in all it was a great day for the Tea Party.
