Congratulations to George and Ann Hartley on five years of George's Restaurant!

Big news from Dennis Dumler is he is joining "The Ticket" Sports Talk radio network to do a new show that debuts Aug. 12 and airs from 9-11 a.m. on 100.3 FM in the Destin market. He will also do high school football play by play. He is excited to get back to his roots in broadcasting with a Southern regional network with coverage from Baton Rouge to Tallahassee. Congrats to ya!

Congratulations to Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort, which was awarded the 2013 Gold Tee Award from "Meetings & Conventions" magazine. This award is given to outstanding golf and meeting properties worldwide. Winners of the Gold Tee Award were nominated and selected by readers of "Meetings & Conventions" based on their overall excellence.

Paige and Mark Schnell celebrated nine years of marriage this week.

My thanks to all who have written and sought me out to comment on the column I wrote about my son's wedding. You never know when you're writing a piece like that whether anyone will care. I have been amazed at the number of people with whom it resonated and took the time to seek me out to comment. I was on such a high from the excitement of it all at the time that I didn't notice that my son and daughter in law chose to forgo having a big wedding cake. He doesn't care for sweets and she is gluten free, so, they just cut a small cake topper and served cupcakes and cookies. Another unique thing they did was instead of spending money on take-home goodie bags for guests, they chose to write a check to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Kudos to them for doing that. CFF is very special to them as one of my son's best friends from college has CF and has undergone a double lung transplant. The brave and lovely Katie flew up for the wedding from Birmingham.

And, oh, yes, another thing I forgot to mention is that there, in the lovely New York burg of Skaneateles Falls, we Southerners showed them how we roll when we bribed the DJ to play "Sweet Home Alabama." Yes, we did. All of us from the South, and all who love the South were on the floor showing the New Yorkers how it is done here. They will probably never forget us.
