PARTY LINE: Saying goodbye to a whirlwind week

I left South Walton last Tuesday in the early morning hours with my sights set on our nation's capitol. It was to be my first time back to that city since the summer I was 14. D.C. is a beautiful city. What made it more beautiful is that I was meeting my baby there and spending three days with her.

She was going there to receive the award of Examiner of the Year from the National Credit Union Administration for Region 3. It was a very proud day for both of us. My daughter's seventh-grade math teacher from Seaside Neighborhood School , Wren Brasfield, came to the ceremony and brought her former student flowers! We were then given a tour of the Kennedy Center and lunch in its rooftop dining hall. It was very nice and a visit I will always remember. I will remember the awards ceremony, for sure, but also the long walks along King Street , riding the metro together to the capitol, the al fresco pasta dinner, oysters at Hanks, but most of all, the long talks. Sweet trip and memory, in spite of U.S. Air. However, I met some precious people on the plane.

On my return, I welcomed my first born and her boyfriend to the beach, who helped us celebrate Memorial Day and contributed to South Walton's economy. The ribs and grilled chicken were great, as well as getting to spend time with and catching up with them.

The beach and pool were fab over the holiday. I saw Jane Beene, Michele and Jack Silberman, Judi and Jeff Sikora, Paula Carter, and Tiffanie Shelton there.

Sandy and Greig Buckley, with the help of Bob West, traveled to south Florida last week to pick up their new Silverton 37 boat, which they sailed here. To celebrate, they hosted a christening party onboard last Sunday, and invited Bob and Marinella Monk, Marinella's sister Gabriella, Deb and Bob West, Brodie and Ada Bowman, and John Stasko to enjoy an afternoon on the water. Beautiful, fun day.

Tom and Michelle Fillingim continued their tradition of consecutive Indy 500s and attended their 34th last weekend.

Marie and Jane Soloman took off for Spain , with a stop in Paris .
