Frank and Julie Kovach are the familiar faces behind Furniture South, a unique retail concept that will celebrate its grand opening today.

“It’s been about two months of renovation to get the store ready, but we’re ready to open our doors,” Frank said.

Located in The Landing Shopping Center in Santa Rosa Beach, Furniture South sells an eclectic collection of thoughtfully priced and custom made, handcrafted pieces for every taste.

And the Kovach’s are no strangers to the local furniture market, as they owned Resort Interiors for more than a dozen years before a tough economy forced them to close their doors in 2009. They considered reopening in 2010, but the uncertainty of the BP oil spill derailed their plans.

While freelance work kept them busy for a while, Frank said they had the itch to get back to work and a recovering market was just the boost they needed.

“We saw this center and thought it was the perfect place,” he said, noting that the once sparsely populated center has only one vacancy. “We’ve seen a lot of consignment stores come into the area, but not a lot of new furniture stores, so we wanted to bring some new pieces into the market.”

As half of the Furniture South team, Julie, a licensed interior designer, brings more than 20 years of design experience to the table and will be showcasing some of her signature creations throughout the roughly 5,000-square foot showroom.
