Thieves steal 175 ft of copper outside of DeFuniak

The Walton County Sheriff’s Office is looking into the recent theft of copper wire from a vacant trailer off County Road 183, just outside of DeFuniak Springs.  The owners of the trailer reported to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office that someone pried the front door open and went inside sometime between November 6th and the 13th.

While inside the thieves, cut the copper wire from the heater, stove, and breaker panel. The copper wire that goes to the air-conditioning unit and the wire to the power meter had also been cut.  It’s estimated that there is 175 feet of wire missing.

The manufactured home is located in a small trailer park owned by the victim.  At this time, there’s no other evidence of any other units being broken into.  Similar incidents are currently being investigated in Holmes and Geneva counties.
