Shorty's goes a long way... Shorty's Surfside and Topside offers ‘good food and good value'

Patterson has been in the restaurant business for years.

“I’ve been doing this since 1973 when I had an afro,” Patterson said.

Before opening Shorty’s Patterson ran Hammer Head’s in Baytowne for five years.

Shorty’s boasts an airy blue interior decorated with dog inspired artwork by local artist Teresa Klein.

Patterson named the restaurant after his late dog Shorty.

“Shorty was a mutt,” Patterson said. “But I loved that dog.”

He is currently working with county officials to allow him to build a dog-friendly zone outside the restaurant.

With over 20 varieties of bottled beer and six on draft, you will definitely find something to quench your thirst after a long day on the beach.

Shorty’s menu offers up a tantalizing variety of local favorites.

The lunch menu includes everything from fresh salads to burgers and sandwiches.

If dinner is more your style, then stop by Shorty’s and try the Shrimp n’ Grits or the hand cut filets.

Shorty’s also offers up fresh, hand-rolled sushi everyday after 5 p.m.

Sitting in Shorty’s Topside dining area, Patterson said, “we are not trying to change the world here, we just want the freshest possible food at a reasonable price.”

The view from Shorty’s Topside dining area is beautiful, overlooking the Gulf of Mexico.

One thing that Patterson guarantees about Shorty’s, besides the quality and the freshness of the food is the quality of the staff.

“Wherever I work the people make the difference,” Patterson said. “People will always know me for my staff.”

Shorty’s has live music every night with some of the area’s most popular acts.

“We like to use a simple and intimate setting,” Patterson said, pointing to the area where the bands play.

Everything at Shorty’s is about the guest experience.

“It’s not about me,” Patterson said. “I just run the place. It’s about the people the guests see in front of their tables and the quality of the food.”
