Bobby and Beverly Johnson made a romantic connection early in base jumping off the top of One Seagrove Place. These days, they just toast the memory.

During the coming week, the thoughts of many will turn to romance and all things related as Valentine's Day arrives in South Walton on Friday.

Cards, candy, and gifts will be purchased, and romantic candlelit dinners will be planned.

The Sun recently asked readers “Where is the most romantic place in South Walton to take your sweetie, and why?” Some responses were predictable, but some were quite surprising.

Santa Rosa Beach 's Bobby Johnson shared his own uniquely romantic story: "Bev and I used to base jump off the top of One Seagrove Place every year for Valentine's Day," he said. "We were much younger and crazier then, but it was a romantic connection. We were forced to quit for two reasons: (1.) age, and (2.) we got in a lot of trouble. But, each year on Feb. 14 we take the elevator to the top and laugh about how crazy and fun that was. True Story ...." Awww ...

"Seagar's (fine-dining steak house at The Hilton Sandestin) ... food and ambiance are beyond compare ..." said Santa Rosa Beach 's Cynthia Kennedy without hesitation. Sounds like her mind is made up, so, we sure hope husband Ben gets the message.

Sandestin's Charlie White said he is taking his sweet Betty to Napa for Valentines, along with Dana and Glenn Armentor and Cathy and Don Hay. Yes, a trip to Napa for Valentine's would do nicely.

Santa Rosa Beach resident and Sun columnist Chick Huettel was thinking the most romantic place to take his wife Cathy would be to St. Rita Catholic Church's bi-weekly fish fry. But, then he remembered St. Rita will not be hosting a fish fry on the 14th. Got a plan B, Chick?
