South Walton Seahawks take sting out of Hornets

Seahawk junior quarterback Jonathon Ortner had another stellar night completing 28 of 40 passes for 316 yards and five touchdowns. Sage Roberts had eight catches, two for touchdowns, a 24 and a 17 yarder. Vinnie Ciurleo had four receptions, one for a 24-yard score. Nick Harris had two catches, one a 48-yard strike for the score. Alex Smith had six catches, including a 9-yard TD reception.

The Seahawks also got the job done on the ground with 212 yards rushing. Zach Reese was the top Hawk with 129 yards in 15 carries. Harrison Schaffer rushed six times for 19 yards and one touchdown, while Chandler Parrett rushed four times for 20 yards and a 17-yard TD. Roberts had two carries for 35 yards.

Not only did the offense score, but the defense as well.

Right before the half, South Walton's Carter Edwards picked off a Cottondale pass and ran it back down the left sideline, 95 yards for the score. Earlier, Harrison Schaffer recovered a fumble for the Seahawks.

"The defense did good," Tisa said. "We had a couple of breakdowns, but other than that I thought they played hard and hit people."

As a matter of fact, the Seahawk defense didn't allow a first down until the second quarter.

To start, South Walton got the ball first and scored in eight plays with Ortner connecting with Roberts on a 24-yard TD strike. The extra point attempt failed.
