The Art of Simple, a fixture in Seaside's Ruskin Place since 2004, has moved up front to the town's main street, Quincy Circle next to Modica Market.
The move almost doubles the square footage — from 700 to 1,300 — of the store and allowed for expansion of product lines offered and more variety as well as visibility.
The Art of Simple is now what owner Michael Granberry describes as "arts, antiques, and apothecary," or, "curiosities and necessities," he says with a chuckle.
More specifically, expect to find bath and beauty soaps, candles, body oils, bath salts, note cards, some artwork, and yes, antiques.
The store's artwork is by artists from Memphis, Birmingham, Nashville, Atlanta, and New Orleans, as well as the work of local artists Justin Lyons and Cheryl Troxel.
"It's an interesting mix," said Granberry. "We envision it as a place people can come to buy gifts."
The Granberrys intend to keep The Art of Simple stocked with unique and specialty items and talks are in motion to join forces with Modica Market in offering specialty gift baskets that could contain food and wine from the market, and gift items from The Art of Simple.
"It would be a marriage of both store's offerings," said Granberry.
Michael and Laura Granberry moved to South Walton in 2002 and first opened The Art of Simple in Grayton in 2003, then moved it to Seagrove. When they purchased a townhome in Ruskin Place in 2004, they reopened the store on the first floor of their home.
The Granberrys will reopen the space in Ruskin Place under the name "Art Only" and revert back to its roots as an art gallery which will fit with the artist colony atmosphere of the space.
"We plan to carry 10 artists full time as a staple of the gallery, and carry others occasionally," he said. "In addition to hanging art, the gallery will also feature artisan sculpture pieces, one of a kind items, artisan chocolates, and leather. It's what Ruskin Place is all about."
The Art of Simple is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. In the off season. During busy season, you can find it open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
