If you're looking for a great not-off-the-rack meal with a fabulous view where the locals eat, look no farther than The Bay.

Chef/owner Jim Shirley already had a secure reputation in the community and beyond as Executive Chef of Great Southern Cafe at Seaside .

Seaside is great, but Great Southern is mostly about great Southern cooking, and when the opportunity arises to occupy a space with a spectacular view of the Bay and be a place where you can show off your other culinary skills, it was too good to pass up.

Shirley and General Manager Mario McNally opened The Bay the first of April.

McNally came onboard with Shirley after a long stint with Restaurant Fire, which he helped open in Grayton Beach in 2007.

Shirley has been a chef since 1987 and opened the Fish House in Pensacola in 1998. He opened Great Southern in Seaside in 2006.

"Southern is a special spot," said Shirley. "But as a Navy pilot, I lived all over the world and always dabbled in Asian cuisine. Asian is something I do well."
