If you're looking for a great not-off-the-rack meal with a fabulous view where the locals eat, look no farther than The Bay.
Chef/owner Jim Shirley already had a secure reputation in the community and beyond as Executive Chef of Great Southern Cafe at
Shirley and General Manager Mario McNally opened The Bay the first of April.
McNally came onboard with Shirley after a long stint with Restaurant Fire, which he helped open in
Shirley has been a chef since 1987 and opened the Fish House in
"Southern is a special spot," said Shirley. "But as a Navy pilot, I lived all over the world and always dabbled in Asian cuisine. Asian is something I do well."
Opening The Bay offered Shirley the opportunity to expand his cuisine offerings to include the Asian he loves to prepare.
"I had the opportunity, it offers a beautiful view, and I can do more in the community from here," he explained.
The community seems to appreciate his effort, as on any given night a visit to The Bay shows almost every table filled with locals.
Shirley says he specializes in fresh local seafood and produce joined with "interesting" flavors, such as Asian pesto sauce.
The restaurant offers a sushi bar and a special sushi menu tableside.
The seafood is always fresh as they are taken into a special fish cutting room right off the boats. The result is fresh, and he is able to offer such delicacies as grouper cheeks and throats that usually are not found on menus.
"You can't go wrong with fresh fish not buried in other flavors," said Shirley.
However, at The Bay, it is not totally all about the sushi and the fish, as diners will notice a large chalkboard announcing a healthy group of enticing desserts — such as peanut butter cream pie.
"The peanut butter pie is a crowd favorite," said McNally, who recommends it.
"I have an incredible staff," said Shirley. "Here it is all good and fun."

The Bay is located at the foot of the 331 Bridge, and is open seven days a week for lunch from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. and into dinner. Happy hour is Monday - Friday happy from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. with half price wine by the glass and $1 off beer.
