About 100 South Walton residents gathered in Freeport to express pro and con views on a possible canal to be dredged by the Corps of Engineers between the east end of Choctawhatchee Bay and the Gulf, via Western Lake.

An application was filed by a group of area residents for a new bank to be located in Santa Rosa Beach .

30 years ago — 1983

South Walton Emergency Services Fire Chief Jim Anthony resigned, saying he was “disgusted with the whole organization.”
