A bill that would allow the state to dispose of some of the 18,000 acres it purchased in South Walton in 1992 with Preservation 2000 funds moved through committees of the House of Representatives.

U.S. 98 construction at Sandestin not expected to be completed until October.

Since the state cut Health Department funding and the county no longer directly funds the Walton County Humane Society, citizens in area towns and municipalities such as Freeport cannot count on animal control services.

After alleging a series of civil rights violations, Walton County resident Helen Crenshaw sued the city of DeFuniak Springs and Police Department Chief Clinton Hooks, saying the city discriminated against her and the police failed to respond to her calls for assistance.
