25 years ago — 1989

A meeting of the Choctaw Ferry Users Association had few in attendance, as the Choctaw Ferry broke down a half-hour before the meeting, leaving 15 cars stranded on the north side of the Intracoastal Waterway. A week later, the Walton County Commission shut down the ferry, which had operated there for 51 years.


20 years ago — 1994

Walton County Sheriff Quinn McMillian asks the county to provide funds for four more deputies.
