25 years ago — 1989

The 135-foot, $2.6 million steamboat Grand Romance, the largest ship ever built at Freeport Shipbuilding, Marine repair for Central Florida

           

20 years ago — 1994

After hearing protests from Inlet Beach residents, Walton Commissioners unanimously approved a Seacrest development in South Walton that would include residential areas as well as commercial and dune walkovers to the beach.

Hopes of obtaining greater fire protection for the South Walton Fire District were crushed when county commissioners shot down the Fire Board’s request to put a tax increase on November ballot.

The second phase of Silver Sands Factory Stores in South Walton, a 48,800-square foot addition, opened and ground breaking for Phase III took place.
