40 years ago — 1974

Sandestin opened its golf and tennis facilities to the public until Aug. 1 Greens fee for 18 holes was $9, tennis courts were $4 an hour.


25 years ago — 1989

The Choctaw Ferry Users appealed a judge’s earlier decision to allow its closing.

The state Department of Transportation transferred ownership of Old U.S. 98 through part of South Walton to the county, along with a roadside park.
