This week in Walton history: No female deputies allowed

Two Panama City men were arrested for operating a moonshine distillery in the Steele Field area of South Walton.

South Walton welcomed Curtis C. Lieber, licensed physician assistant, at the Santa Rosa Beach Medical Center .


20 years ago — 1993

Fire Board discussed liability issues of female firefighters who responded while pregnant and brought their children to the scene of a fire.

Walton County Sheriff Quinn McMillian said he may one day hire a female deputy to go on the road and patrol since backup is now available, whereas he currently had a policy of not allowing female deputies on the road.

Sandestin’s director of human resources, Sylvia Bell, captured state honors as the Florida Human Resource Executive of the Year.
