Sept. 28 – Oct. 5

30 years ago —1983

South Walton voters approved creation of a fire control district by a 3-1 margin and elected a seven-member fire commission.

Twelve condominium units were destroyed in a $1.5 million fire at Seascape Resort and Conference Center . Fire officials said it was the worst blaze in South Walton history.

20 years ago — 1993

The 911 system, which was to move Oct. 1 from the Walton County Sheriff’s Department to the Department of Public Safety, may not be ready due to budget constraints.
