South Walton County was once again the center of attention in the athletic world with the seventh annual South Walton Sportsfest, with a thousand people from across the state and other states competing in one or more of nine major sporting events.

Only one month into the fiscal year, the city of Freeport depleted all its funds budgeted for donations, with requests from the Tri-County Community Council, the Town Planters Society and the “Londonaires.”

Development at Sandestin continued at a strong pace with the addition of a $1.5 million project to expand a residential community. The project, awarded to Southshore Construction of Santa Rosa Beach, extended Baytowne Avenue to open up 74 lots valued at approximately $3.9 million.

Sandestin Resort broke ground on the Burnt Pine Golf Club at Sandestin, with an 18-hole championship golf course and exclusive clubhouse.

Sandcastle Shores at Sandestin, an assisted living retirement community, expanded its facilities with 10 more apartments.
