Wilkerson seeks another term on Walton County School Board
Mildred T. Wilkerson has qualified for re-election to the Walton County School Board, District 1.
After teaching science for 33 years, Wilkerson retired from Walton Middle School in 1994 but has continued to be active in the community through various organizations. She served as president of the Walton County Retired Educator Association three times. She has been the school board's representative on the Walton County Value Adjustment Board for four terms, and in 2006 was appointed by Gov. Jeb Bush to the Florida Science Textbook Adoption Committee.
Wilkerson has three adult children, all graduates of Walton High School and the University of Florida and all have earned advanced degrees.
She has served as chairman and vice chairman while serving on the Walton County School Board.
"I have also brought several important qualities to the board: experience, knowledge, wisdom, respect, proper attitude and belief in the importance of education," said Wilkerson.
"Walton County is growing. We see this in the new gymnasiums at Paxton and Bay Elementary. Three new schools are being built to accommodate the increasing population in Mossy Head, Santa Rosa Beach and DeFuniak Springs. All schools are equipped with new technology and teachers are now trained to use the technology effectively," said Wilkerson.
"It has been rewarding to help bring our school system into the 21st century, and I would like to continue to help your children succeed. I am committed to higher standards for greater opportunities. Children are our future," said Wilkerson.
