Be a fairy godmother with Project Princess
Now in its second year, Project Princess is again on a mission to provide prom memories for all Walton County junior and senior high-school girls.
This year, only 120 have collected so far.
Schack is an alumnus of Leadership Walton. When she and others in that group were faced with the need for a community project, Project Princess was born.
This year, Schack has some additional support from the Leadership Walton Alumni and she had hoped to double the number of young ladies she could outfit.
She is asking Walton County residents to dig all their formal gowns that have been hanging in their closets for years and donate them to Walton County’s girls.
Gowns may be dropped off at any of seven different locations: DeFuniak Springs City Hall, DeFuniak Springs Herald or Beach Breeze, Keller Williams and ResortQuest in Destin, Freeport Fire Department, or the Walton County Tourist Development Council Visitor Center.
Fitting days will take place every Saturday in March prior to prom, in north and south Walton. In Freeport, fitting day is March 20 at Freeport High. In South Walton, fitting day is March 27 at Silver Sands.
Schack is also asking for donations of door prizes, manicures and updos for prom night. As of yet, no donations of that type have been received.
“Last year’s project was successful and we want to be again so all girls can experience prom and make memories,” she said. “It promotes self confidence. Teen girls’ self esteem is fragile and so important. We want every girl to have the opportunity to feel beautiful for prom regardless of their familiesfinancial circumstances.”
