As summer time is upon us, many folks have plans to visit relatives, travel overseas or are simply planning a family fun trip not too far from home. Keep these crime prevention tips in mind:

When leaving the house for an extended time, call the Sheriff’s Office to be put on our vacation watch list at 850-892-8111. Deputies will perform security checks while you are away.

Indoor and outdoor lights should be on automatic timers.

Do not share details of your travel plans on social media websites.

Be extra cautious about locking doors and windows when you leave the house.

Check smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.

Keep hedges and bushes around your home trimmed.
