Winter storm impacts

·This week's temperatures in South Walton dropped well past the freezing mark with the lowest reportedly to 25 degrees, causing roads and pipes to freeze. In North Walton, the temp dropped to 18.

·The DeFuniak Springs area received 2 inches of snow, while South Walton reported less than an inch of icy precipitation.

·Walton County schools were closed for three days; as well government offices. Many businesses also closed, while others opened with skeleton crews.

·Roads all the way from I-10 to the Alabama state line were closed. Florida Highway Patrol closed roads from mile marker 112 to Pensacola.

·The 331 Bridge was closed for less than 24 hours on Wednesday.

·The slick roads were the probable cause of two accidents in South Walton. There were 13 total accidents reported by Walton County Sheriff's Department from the onset of the storm through Wednesday afternoon.

·Emergency Management Director Russell Beaty said that over the three coldest nights the Coastal Branch Library took in a total of 28 people needing shelter. There were 10 on Monday, nine on Tuesday and nine on Wednesday.
