Michael Dean Callahan

Mike was born in Riverdale, Md., on March 14, 1947.

Moving to Destin in 1969, he was stationed at Eglin A.F.B. after serving in Vietnam. He met Sam and Ruth Taylor while working at the Broken Spur as a cook in 1969. He worked for Sam as head cook at the Sandflea restaurant and Sam’s Oyster House.

Mike and Donna Testa Callahan opened the Seafood Factory restaurant in 1985 in Destin and Fort Walton Beach. A few years later, they opened Callahan’s restaurant & Deli in Destin, which is still operating today.

As a result of Mike’s many business adventures, he is well known and respected throughout the community. He dearly loved this area and enjoyed all it had to offer.

Mike was diagnosed with kidney cancer October 2012 and after a long brave battle, he passed on to be with his Lord and Savior on Oct. 7, 2013.

He will be mourned and forever missed by his surviving family, dear wife, Donna Callahan; brother, Pat Callahan; sister, Sherry Bridgeford; brother, Tim Callahan.
