Richard Allen Slusher

Richard Allen Slusher of Santa Rosa Beach, started dancing in heaven for his Lord Jesus Feb, 26, 2014.  Richard was born in Ullin, Ill., on March 18, 1944, to Richard Arthur and Ruth (Sitton) Slusher.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Susan (Sloan); children, Richard (Sheri Hamon), Matthew (Alexandrea Mann) and Angelina; grandchildren, Ian, Madex, Ezra, Raelan and Eli; brothers Jack, Earl Wayne, Gary, Tony; sister, Tina Peterson; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Richard was honorably discharged from the Army in 1968, after which he settled in the Aurora, Ill., area. He attended DePaul University (Chicago), majoring in mental health administration and graduated with a degree in ministry from Christian International School of Theology.

Richard cared about others and did what he could to meet their needs, donating more than two gallons of blood to area bloodbanks, time and money to various ministries, community organizations such as Big Brothers of America, reaching people in the U.S., Northern Ireland, India and Afghanistan.

Throughout his life he worked with developmentally disabled adults, homeless, and those recovering from addictions. Richard, a licensed minister with Aurora Faith Center, Aurora, Ill., later ordained with Christian International Ministries, Santa Rosa Beach, served as pastoral staff, missionary, ministry team leader and team trainer.

Richard was a loyal husband and father, who faithfully worked to provide for his family and, even when finances were tight, willingly opened his home to others who needed a place to stay. In keeping with his desire to help others, Richard donated his body to science.
