Kenneth Russell “Ken” Long
Kenneth Russell “Ken” Long, 50, of Miramar Beach, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly July 24, 2014, near his home.
A devoted husband to his wife of more than 10 years, Maria Johnson Long, Ken is also survived by his daughter, Nicole, 10, and son, Hunter, 8. His family will remember him as a constant and loving presence in their lives and a committed husband and father.
Ken is also survived by his mother, Beverly, and step-father, John Monaco of Destin; step-mother, Susanne Long, of Hiawassee, Ga.; step-sister, Cynthia Long, of California; brother, David Jeffery Long, of Destin; mother-in-law, Maria Teresa Johnson; and sister-in-law, Maria Teresa Johnson, both residents of south Walton County; and his brother-in-law, Nestor Johnson, of Venezuela.
He is predeceased by his father, Arthur Q. Long, brother Skipper Long, and father-in-law, Nestor Johnson.
A small business owner and true craftsman, Ken worked on some of the area’s most distinguished homes and he truly enjoyed his work.
Ken loved to hunt, fish, and boat, and he shared this passion with both his children. A quiet man, Ken taught Hunter and Nicole to respect and love nature, and shared his love of the outdoors with them. He was often seen working with Hunter around the yard and getting their boat ready for the weekend and supporting Nicole at her softball games. As much as he loved hunting and fishing, his greatest love and biggest joy was being with his family, and he was proud of their accomplishments and the life they built together.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, especially his colleagues in the building and construction industry, his hunting friends, and the boat captains with whom he nurtured a friendly rivalry about the best spots. His family appreciates all the love, support, and prayers you have sent since his passing.
A memorial service was held July 31 at Destiny Worship Center in Miramar Beach, Fla. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made in Ken’s memory to Wildlife Foundation of Florida, www.wildlifefoundationofflorida.com; Wildlife Foundation of Florida, P.O.
