William Trenton McKenney
William Trenton McKenney, “Mac,” 80, passed away at his home in DeFuniak Springs June 12, 2014. He was born in Austell, Ga., on Nov. 4, 1933, to John Trenton and Katherine Ora McKenney.
In 1974, he moved to Northwest Florida with his wife and daughters. He was a member of the DeFuniak Springs Army National Guard until his retirement as a Sergeant 1st Class in November 1993. Mac served as a volunteer firefighter and fire chief in Santa Rosa Beach. He retired from his heating and air conditioning, electrical, and plumbing business before moving to DeFuniak Springs in 2003.
Mac is preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Betty Hollingsworth and husband Shorty of Austell, Ga., and Lanell DuBard and husband Clark of Douglasville, Ga.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 55 years, Peggy Hilly McKenney; daughters, Debrah Pavlas and husband Jay of Fort Walton Beach, Denise Kent of DeFuniak Springs, and Lisa Vandermate and AL of Santa Rosa Beach; sisters, Vera Hembree and Barbara Sheffield, both of Austell; grandchildren, Cara Kriz and husband Daniel of Tampa, Fla., Chris Herron and wife Christa of Niceville, Jason, Nathan, and Angela Kent of DeFuniak Springs, Casey Cox and Tyler Vandermate of Santa Rosa Beach; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Mac’s life will be held at 5 p.m. June 20 at Davis-Watkins Funeral Home, 1474 Highway 83, North in DeFuniak Springs. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Covenant Hospice, 220 Eglin Parkway in Fort Walton Beach.
The family wishes to offer a special thanks to Dr. Joseph Shalit and staff of Crestview and the Covenant Hospice Team for the love and care given to Mac.
