Frances Lett Pagels

Ms. Frances Lett Pagels, 93, of DeFuniak Springs, Fla., passed away June 24, 2014. She was born Sept. 14, 1920, in Eclectic, Ala., to Sellie Lett and Annie Smith Lett.

Ms. Pagels was Methodist by faith and a member of the First United Methodist Church of DeFuniak Springs. She graduated from the Florida State College for Women. She worked as a legal secretary, a medical secretary and also as an emergency room clerk for many years before retiring.

She was a long time member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, having held all positions and serving as president of each chapter in which she served. She was recognized nationally in 2006 in the “Beta Sigma Phi” magazine for her 62 years of membership. She was also a member of the American Business Women’s Association and also served as a volunteer in the hospital auxiliary. 

Ms. Pagels was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, James Smith Lett, and her sister, Sellie Ruth Hill.

Ms. Pagels is survived by daughter, Jo Anne Wilson; son, Thomas L. Pagels, both of DeFuniak Springs; sister, Elizabeth Jackson of Indiana; grandchildren, Kathy Jo Jacowski and husband Steve, Michele Pagels, Thomas L. Pagels II and wife Michelle, Michael Hemphill, David Hemphill; and great-grandchildren, Brandon, Brooks, Kaila, nnah, Thomas, Madison and Abigail.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. June 27 at the Chapel of Clary-Glenn Funeral Home, with the Rev. Joel Glenn officiating.
