I attended the March 13 DeFuniak Springs Council meeting and was appalled at the behavior of the four council members present. Councilman Mac Carpenter could not attend as the Walton Board of County Commissioners held a conflicting meeting.
The council was not only unbelievably rude to guests invited by Mayor Bob Campbell, but insufferably arrogant in their obvious quest for power and determination to embarrass and demean Mr. Campbell. They succeeded only too well. They not only embarrassed the Mayor, but myself as well and a number of other citizens in the audience. They also embarrassed our community — not only by their behavior, but more importantly by their total refusal to take advice of any sort and complete unwillingness to even have a one-on-one conversation with seasoned professionals. These gentlemen were offering an absolutely free service to assist in a critical decision we are facing for our community’s future management. Their assistance was in no way binding, only informative and very pleasantly and professionally offered.
Those four council members are obviously friendly among themselves and have a personal agenda which I believe will come to light shortly after the upcoming election. I encourage each of you to attend DeFuniak Springs City Council meetings held the second and fourth Mondays of each month at City Hall at 6 p.m. The next meeting will be Monday, March 27.
You are fully capable of determining your satisfaction with how you are being represented. I personally am very satisfied with our very diplomatic, progressive and hard-working Mayor and applaud Mr. Campbell's efforts. He needs your support by your regular attendance and participation at DeFuniak Springs City Council meetings and becoming informed on issues that dramatically affect our future.
