Never buy a Rolex from someone who is out of breath
RON HART
Forced to spend a rare weekend in Atlanta during what has been a monsoon season in my beloved South (translation, no golf), I watched Sunday morning TV for the first time in years. Just as I remembered, it was full of worship services.
The elite media worshiped their lord and savior, Barack Obama, on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” ABC’s “This Week,” and NBC’s “Meet the Press.” They even had a Spanish service on Univision.
It is telling that Obama still refuses to appear on Fox. Note to the anointed one: Even Judas was invited to the Last Supper.
Bill Clinton might have been one of only two presidents to be impeached, but Obama will probably be the first president to receive an Emmy for best acting. He is already assured of someday getting a Nobel Peace Prize for his work in both causing and then mending the racial wounds of professor Gates and the Cambridge cop who was slandered for just doing his job.
I am always amazed how politicians can cause a problem and then get credit for trying to fix it. It is like shooting someone and then being rewarded for calling 9-1-1.
Obama is setting out to see if he can be the first leader in the history of the world to multiply his country’s wealth by dividing it. He wants to give to certain of his lazier constituents the fruits of the labor of the more industrious. Controlling the 51 percent he gives to by taking from the other 49 percent is the tightrope he and David Axelrod are walking in hopes of winning again in 2012.
This president is on a torrid pace to make us forget how often Bush was misguided and how bad Carter could have been had Reagan not beaten him in 1980. Someone needs to identify the next Reagan, preferably a candidate who does not wander off down the Appalachian Trail or who can “see Russia from her house,” by 2011.
I just hope not too much damage is done to our country before we again elect a minimalist- government leader who can reduce the size and scope of Washington.
Forcing health care reform on us through Chicago-style political intimidation and extortion will prove to be the downfall of this naïve and philosophically misguided administration.
As my grandfather used to tell me when I had unpleasant work to do, “If you have to eat a frog, do not look at it too long. And if you have to eat two frogs, eat the bigger one first.” This goes a long way to explain why Obama slammed Cap-and-Trade down our throats (like Serena Williams wanted to jam that tennis ball down the Japanese line judge’s throat), and now is trying to chase it down with ObamaCare.
At this point, none of the Democrats cares what is in the health care bill as long as political defeat can be avoided. This has historically been the way very bad legislation is made. Politicians are so averse to any short-term political loss that they are willing to mortgage our children’s futures to avoid it.
After appearing on four talk shows on Sunday, Obama followed with a guest spot on uber-angry, liberal David Letterman’s show Monday night. Obama clearly revels in the public spotlight when the interviewer is a like-minded lobber of softballs.
I suggest he save the country his travel expenses by installing bleachers and an applause sign in the Oval Office so he can host the media there every day.
