LETTER: Someone dropped the ball In Walton on BP grants

Published: Monday, January 7, 2013 at 05:34 PM.

I own a small business on 30A, and my business, as well as many other businesses on 30A, were greatly affected by the BP oil disaster.

In last week’s Panama City News Herald, an article stated that there were 33 grants allocated to the state of Florida against the upcoming monies being paid by BP.

My concern is that Walton County will receive only one grant and that is being given to the Homeowners of Baytowne Wharf Neighborhood Association.

It seems to me that someone has dropped the ball for Walton County.

The Pensacola area will receive 10 grants including Pensacola Beach Chamber to organizations as obscure as Pensacola Math Engineering, Science and Stuff.

LeeCounty received three grants in South Florida and the Latino Media Gulf Coast received one.

My point is, who is looking out for Walton County? We experienced as much damage from the BP disaster as the Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge on Sanibel Island.
