When Tim and Julie Brown lost two pets to a stomach disease, enough was enough.

“When our cats got sick, we started doing all the research possible,” said Tim, owner of Furry Fanatics. “We just knew it was linked to their food. So after working with countless vets and educating ourselves, we knew we had to make a change.”

That change meant rebuilding their pets’ diets using all natural food and treats, and eventually opening Furry Fanatics to help other pet owners discover the difference whole foods can make. Located in Gulf Place, the store offers all natural food products, novelty items and two owners that truly care.

“We don’t want anyone to lose a pet like we did,” Julie said. “We want to educate our customers and sell the foods that pets should be eating — no corn, wheat, soy or byproducts. It’s amazing the difference food can make. Just think about how different you feel when you eat well.”

Having five pets of their own, all of them rescues, the Browns have experienced firsthand the effect diet has on an animal. So when they saw a need for an animal health-food store on 30A, they jumped at the opportunity.

“Pets are like family, and you want them to live a long life,” Julie said. “A healthy, raw diet is the answer.”

Furry Fanatics now neighbors a dog grooming shop and vet clinic, creating a “one-stop shop for your pet” right in Gulf Place. The Browns also plan to add a pet concierge service in 2015 that offers pick up/drop off from your home for grooming or vet appointments, and home delivery for any pet items you need. They want to make taking care of your pet simple and convenient.
