Don’t let the name fool you — The Perfect Pig isn’t a barbecue joint. And although it does offer “fabulous” BBQ dishes and pork-centered entrees, owner Vicki Miller created a diverse menu that is sure to surprise you.
“I know the name can be a bit misleading,” she said. “Because when you walk through the doors, we probably aren’t what you’d expect. But I like that — we’re a pleasant surprise.”
The Perfect Pig is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and boasts an array of fresh and local flavors. Miller’s favorite items are the breakfast parmesan crusted grilled sandwich with cheddar cheese, two eggs and hand-sliced brown sugar bacon; and dinner’s pork tenderloin medallions over creamy grits with a blackberry Pinot Noir sauce.
“The menu is everything I love,” Miller said. “I didn’t know how to go about it any other way — you have to be passionate about what you do. And what we do, we do really, really well.”
Two chefs run The Perfect Pig’s kitchen, and Miller did not hesitate to brag about them both.
“Our daytime chef, Jose, just gets food,” she said. “He understands flavors and works so quickly and efficiently. And our nighttime chef, Denise, is so good and consistent. She’s the one who helped create the dinner menu. She’s amazing.”
And it’s not only the chefs that set that restaurant apart, but the ingredients they cook with.
“We use fresh, local produce when we can,” Miller said. “We don’t buy stuff frozen. We have a commitment to quality and people recognize that. You can taste the difference and that’s what will keep you coming back.”
Miller admitted she never planned to open her own restaurant, calling herself an “accidental restaurateur,” but feels blessed for the opportunity.
“It was the right place at the right time — everything just came together,” she said. “I feel really blessed to be here and have grown the way we have. I love seeing our guests enjoying themselves over good food. And we have a fabulous staff that I’m very, very proud of.”
