Snowbirds plan raffle, dance, luncheon

Published: Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at 03:07 PM.

Last week on Monday, there was a great deal of excitement as a fairly large group of snowbirds descended upon the Faith Assembly Fellowship Hall to make their membership official by way of registration. Many snowbirds waited patiently to sign up for varied activities and events. Their endeavors were reminiscent of the old college days when standing in line to sign up for classes was the mode. How many remember life before computers?

If you missed out on last Monday’s registration, fear not, there will be one from 8:30-10:30 a.m. every Monday through Feb. 10 a.m. at the Fellowship Hall on South Geronimo in Miramar Beach.

If you happened to miss the general meeting Jan. 8, hopefully that won’t be the case for the next general meeting at 10 a.m. Jan. 22 at the Destin Life Center Building of the Destin United Methodist Church, 200 Beach Drive. Under the leadership of President Dom Trolian, a very dedicated board of officers will guide the Walton County Snowbird Club for the remainder of the 2014 season. Welcome to newly appointed board member Jean Jordan, secretary. Thank you for your volunteering effort.

Arriving early for the general meeting will allow you time to purchase raffle tickets for the Walton County Snowbird Scholarship Raffle. The lucky winner will receive a beautiful gift basket, valued at more than $350. The raffle will take place at the general meeting Feb. 12. The proceeds for this raffle will go toward a $1,000 scholarship being awarded to two deserving South Walton High School seniors. With minutes still remaining before the start of the meeting, you will certainly want to check out the vendor tables to collect information on specials being offered. The not-to-miss entertainment for this meeting will be David Seering, unquestionably a snowbird favorite, who has performed for our club as well as presidents and governors. David has showmanship ability and technique that very few performers can match. The meeting will end with your chance to win a door prize, diligently collected by Jeannette Diggins, et al, from the very generous area merchants.

A couple of social events that are coming up in February are the Ladies Luncheon and the Valentine Day Dinner Dance. Tickets for both events are available and checking the Walton County Snowbird website will give you additional information on how to obtain yours. The Ladies Luncheon, which will also include a fashion show plus door prizes, will be held at noon Feb. 7 at the Embassy Suites Hotel on Scenic Hwy. 98. The Valentine Annual Dinner Dance will be on Feb. 15 at the Sandestin Hilton Hotel Ballroom with the Mike Mancini Band providing music for your dancing pleasure. Cocktails will begin at 5:30 p.m., buffet dinner at 6:30 p.m. and then dance the night away from 7:30-10:30 p.m. Reserve your table now as there are a limited number of tickets and no one wants a disappointed Valentine.
