It was wins across the board for the Destin Dolphins this past Saturday with all divisions posting victories over the Freeport Bulldogs in the Panhandle Youth Football Association play at Freeport Middle School stadium.
The Destin Senior Dolphins pulled off a 55-6 victory with Eli Williams leading the way with five touchdowns. Williams rushed for two TDs, had a catch for a touchdown from Maddox Fayard and picked off a couple of Bulldog passes for two pick-6s. All his touchdowns were over 50 yards.
Fayard ran for a couple of touchdowns for the Dolphins, plus connected with Carsten Phillips for a TD reception.
“Everything worked on offense,” said Destin Coach Ryan Orr. “Backs ran hard and the O-line controlled the line of scrimmage.”
As for the defense, Brick Larbee and Brandon Harnish each recovered fumbles for the Dolphins.
“The defense dominated from start to finish. I’m very proud of the boys for staying focused for a 7:30 p.m. game during a hurricane,” Orr said.
Team captains for the Dolphin Seniors were Ethan Ramsey, Archer Yates, Garrett Jacobs and Christian Harnish.
In Junior football action, Destin shut out Freeport 35-0.
Destin scored on its first possession, moving the ball 71 yards in seven plays. Maddox Hayles capped off the drive with a 40-yard TD run. Owen Davis scored the extra point.
On the Dolphins' next possession, starting from their own 10-yard line, Braxton Beard weaved through defenders for a 90-yard TD run. Davis was good for the point after.
After stopping Freeport for the third consecutive time, Destin’s Andrew Atkins returned the punt 67 yards for the touchdown. Hayles ran in the point after for a 2-10 lead at the half.
On Destin’s first series of the second half, the Dolphins moved the ball 47 yards on seven plays. The drive included a 16-yard pass play from Davis to Baylen Knox and then a 7-yard TD run by Calvin Blackman. Hayles was good for the PAT.
The last Destin touchdown came on a 13-yard run by Hayles, who also ran in the point after for a 35-0 finish.
For the game, Destin held Freeport to only two first downs. Braxton Beard led the defense with 12 tackles followed by nine from Charlie Perkins. Calvin Blackman had an interception, Baylen Knox caused a fumble and Perkins had a fumble recovery.
In Pee Wee action, the Destin Dolphins won 13-0.
This Saturday all three Destin teams will be on the road with games in DeFuniak Springs against the Walton Braves. The Pee Wees play at 3 p.m., Juniors at 4:30 p.m., and Seniors at 6:30 p.m.
