After leading by six points early on, the South Walton Seahawks fell 81-66 to the Walton County Braves in boy’s varsity basketball action Tuesday night in Santa Rosa Beach.
In the first quarter, the Seahawks pressed the Braves and made an 11-point run for a 19-13 advantage. Jalier Ramos scored then Caleb Donaldson made a pair of free throws. Spencer Burden made a take away for a quick basket and then came right back with a 3-pointer. Barrett Waldrop finished up the run with a put-back basket. In the last two minutes, Walton scored on a free throw and a baseline shot from Gavin Coone. South Walton led 19-16 at the buzzer.
At the start of second quarter, South Walton maintained their lead momentarily with a free throw from Cade Rowland and a put back from Barrow Holloway. However, in the next two minutes, Walton made a nine-point run to go up 28-22. South Walton closed it back down to a one-point game with a couple of free throws from Ramos and a 3-pointer from Burden. But the Braves came roaring back with another nine straight. South Walton hit a pair of free throws late, but Walton led at the half 37-29.
In the third quarter, the scoring went back-and-forth, but the Seahawks couldn’t overcome the deficit. Walton outscored them 21-19 for a 58-48 advantage.
In the fourth, Walton continued to take it to the Seahawks, outscoring them 23-18.
Tops for the Seahawks were Burden with 14 points, including four 3-pointers. Rowland scored 10 points, while Ramos and Hayden Stroop each tossed in nine.
Scoring in double figures for the Walton Braves were Kentrell Parker with 27 points, Joel Green with 13 and Keith Gilbert with 12.
