After catching the eye of coaches at camp this summer, South Walton's Camille Cosson has signed to play softball for Northwest Florida State College next year.

"This was real unexpected for me, I was just going for a camp," said the 18-year-old daughter of Burt and Tiffany Cosson of Ponce de Leon.

But after the NWFSC coaches saw her bat, run and field, they wanted her to become a Lady Raider.

"It was obvious … she stood out. That girl can go," said Raider Coach Christina Hamilton at the signing Wednesday morning at South Walton High School "We like the way she swings from the left side, and she's got some speed.”

As for her fielding, "based on what we saw … she's got it," she added.

And Cosson has apparently had "it" for a number of years.

"She's very consistent and dedicated and understands the game very well," said South Walton Softball Coach Bob Hartness.
