Last year, Cosson who plays centerfield and first base for the South Walton Seahawks, finished with a .310 batting average and a .418 on base percentage. She connected for 31 singles, nine doubles and three triples.

"Camille has been one of my leaders on the team, both with athleticism and leadership both on and off the field," Hartness said. "She is tenacious and loves a challenge.”

Cosson got her start on the softball field at 8 years old.

"I was trying all the sports at first," she said, noting she gave track, basketball and softball a try.

"I love to compete and play as a team. We've become like a family," Cosson said, noting she gets a lot of support from the seniors on the team. As a matter of fact, the entire softball team, along with family and friends were on hand in the media center Wednesday at the high school to congratulate Cosson on her signing.

For the last three years as a Seahawk, Cosson has manned first base on occasion, but she likes playing centerfield and batting.

"I like to hit," Cosson said. And when The Sun asked if there is a particular pitch she prefers taking a cut at, she said, "I kind of like them all … if they are a strike."
